In 2016 a new Groups Register XML Schema (XSD) was introduced replacing the XSD from 2014.

This new Groups XSD introduced the following changes:

• The XML namespace changed from http://www.smpte-ra.org/schemas/395/2014 to http://www.smpte-ra.org/ns/395/2016
• KLVSyntax changed from a list of decimal integers to a list of single-byte hex values
• LocalTag changed from a decimal integer to a hex value
